The Black Goddess in Pompeii

……..A myth shouldn’t be perceived as a fairy tale, an instance of escaping reality, but as densification of value, a counter proposal, with an infinitive pretension. It is precisely due to its deceptive lack of historicity that a myth is laid out concretely as a means of historical analysis…[1]

The cycle of paintings The Black Goddess in Pompeii has for its topic the appearance of the mythical Black Goddess which has been, in different forms, present in various cultures and religions throughout the entire human history.

Going back to the narrative, I tried to deconstruct the process of myth creation and fortify this myth through my own personal fiction. Research on the Black Goddess comprises fiction and facts, with the aim of making relative any general aspects of historical analysis, not prone to reevaluation or alteration.
